Mise en scene
Clothing
This film is set in the 1980’s, and so the clothing typically reflects that time period. There are bomber jackets, flared trousers and acid wash jeans. This type of clothing is similar to that of the clothing worn in the 1980’s and so quickly establishes the timer period in which it was set and makes it easy for the viewer to see. We also see the girl and boy sitting outside – the boy is visibly wrapped up in coat, gloves, hat and scarf etc, whereas the girl is only wearing a jacket. This separates the two giving an indication that the girl is different. One complete difference in the clothing aspect is when we see a man with a black bag with eyeholes over his face. This is an eerie element as masks are often used to frighten, and also gives the viewer a sense of something abnormal.
Props
When the boy and girl are in the arcade there are typical old fashioned arcade games such as pacman, which again gives an indication of the time frame. It is also quite a normal thing and not very ‘scary’ so sets the scene that the film begins with a false illusion of normality. Another prop is the plaster placed on the boys face – this indicates hurt and pain, and could indicate worse things to come. There is also the shot of the boy lying on his bed eating sweets in his pyjamas – this could indicate youth and vulnerability.

Lighting
The lighting is very dim throughout the trailer, with some tints of yellow and green, creating an eerie and slightly ghostly atmosphere.
Editing
The trailer included 107 cuts and 15 different shot/camera types. Each cut tends to be very short so that so many cuts can be fit in to such a short space of time. The cuts seem to run in a chronological order but may have some fillers in between to add to the characters/storyline.
Sound
The sound in this trailer is mainly from the dialogue of the characters, however also includes some non diegetic sound in the form of a soundtrack played quietly until 0:45. There are also sound effects used such as at 0:52 at the extreme close up of the boys eyes, when accompanying the movement of the boys eyes opening there is a loud startling noise. There is also music again towards the end of a trailer – this time it is quite like a chase. The music ends when it reaches a crescendo when the title appears on the screen.
